Michael Araten, President & CEO, K'NEX Brands

Michael Araten is the President and CEO of K’NEX Brands, a wholly owned subsidiary of Smart Brands International Co., LLC.,  one of the world’s leading integrated construction systems for children. K’NEX building toys are distributed to nearly 40 countries, and over 95% of the component parts are Made in the USA.

Prior to joining K’NEX , Mr. Araten served as Chief Litigation Counsel to Toll Brothers, Inc. as well as Senior Vice President and Corporate Counsel to O’Neill Properties Group. 

Mr. Araten also serves on several corporate and non-profit Boards, including American Made Matters, the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis and the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Araten holds a B.A. in Political Science from Stanford University, and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. He resides in Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania with his wife, Ellen and their two children.

David Geoghegan, Manufacturing and Pharmaceutical Technology, Trevena

David Geoghegan has over 25 years of experience in a variety of operations roles including quality, manufacturing, supply chain, validation and compliance.  He has worked with both emerging biopharma companies (Trevena, Adolor, Aviron, Savient) as well as large pharma companies (Pfizer/Wyeth, MedImmune, Endo).  As part of his current role, head of manufacturing and pharmaceutical technology, he is overseeing Trevena’s third-party supply chain for clinical and commercial supply.  

 Hal Hunt, Director, Technical Operations & CMC Supply Chain, Trevena

Hal Hunt has over 35 years of experience working for Novartis, Warner Lambert, Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson as well as smaller companies such as Actient, Auxilium, PCI and Endo.  All his roles have been in various operations functions including supply chain, manufacturing, technical operations, quality and others.  In his current role, Hal is responsible for establishing and managing a third-party (virtual) supply chain to support commercialization of Trevena’s lead product candidate - OLINVO™ (oliceridine injection).  

Wanis Kabbaj, Marketing Director--Healthcare Strategy, UPS

Wanis Kabbaj is responsible for developing a fast-growing portfolio of transportation products, uniquely designed around the specific needs of healthcare customers with a special focus on pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device sectors.

Wanis and his team collaborate daily with a wide variety of healthcare customers, industry experts, and highly qualified vendors to pursue the continuous development of the best possible temperature-sensitive transportation solutions, leveraging UPS® small package, air freight and ocean freight networks.

Prior to his current assignment, Wanis managed the International Air Freight product portfolio within the UPS Global Forwarding unit.

Before 2010, Wanis notably contributed to Renault-Nissan's global expansion in key emerging markets including India, Brazil, Russia, and Romania.

Wanis is known for his popular TED talk he delivered on September 2016 on “what a driverless world could look like”. He regularly speaks on global conferences about the future of urban transportation.

Wanis is a dual citizen of Morocco and France and holds a master's degree in business from the Paris-based ESSEC Business School.

Marla A. Phillips, Ph.D.  Director, Xavier Health,  Xavier University. 

Marla joined Xavier University in 2008 as the Director of Xavier Health, where she leads initiatives with FDA officials and Pharmaceutical and Medical Device professionals.  Marla began working in the pharmaceutical industry for Merck in 1996 where she took on roles of increasing responsibility, culminating in position of Head of Quality Operations at the Merck North Carolina facility.  She holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Xavier University, and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.

Robert Sheroff, retired from Johnson & Johnson, Consultant

Bob has an undergraduate degree in Pharmacy from Rutgers University, along with an MBA in Pharmaceutical Marketing from Fairleigh Dickinson University.  After working for a short period of time as a retail pharmacist, Bob joined Johnson & Johnson.  Bob worked within the Operations/Quality area of the pharmaceutical sector.  Bob had overseas assignments in both the United Kingdom and Puerto Rico.  Bob left J&J for approximately 7 years and joined Warner Lambert as their WW Head of Quality.  Bob retuned to J&J when Pfizer acquired Warner Lambert.  Bob held numerous positions at J&J Pharmaceutical, including head of Supply Chain for the Biologics Group, and later as Head of Janssen Supply Chain.    Upon Bob’s retirement from J&J he joined Biogen Idec for about one year and assisted them in re-defining their Global Operations group.  Bob worked for Fibrocell a company developing cell therapy treatments for rare genetic diseases and Agios a Biotech start-up in Cambridge MA focused on oncology.  Bob is a Board member for DPS an engineering and architectural company based in Ireland and a member of the Patheon Executive Council.  Bob continues to provide consultancy support to numerous companies.   

Brian Tarantino, Principal Consultant, The Tracer Group

Brian Tarantino is Principal at The Tracer Group, a consulting firm dedicated to helping the pharmaceutical supply chain address the multitude of challenges with product serialization.  He formerly was with Merck for 29 years, most recently leading Merck’s Global Product Serialization Initiative, implementing product serialization for Merck’s operations around the globe.  This multi-year transformation involved serialization capability at nearly all internal and external packaging sites that supply Merck’s markets, changes at many product distribution centers, and the realization of a global IT infrastructure. Prior to this position he worked in Merck’s Six Sigma program, leading process improvement and change management in manufacturing, marketing, product development, and across most of Merck’s business.  He also worked in engineering and environmental and safety roles in his diverse career at Merck.  Brian holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University, a Masters of Business Administration from Lehigh University, and is a certified Master Black Belt in Lean and process improvement. 

Paul Testa, Group Vice President, Shire

Paul Testa is the Head of Global Supply Chain for Shire.  Paul has more than 25 years of experience in a unique mix of industries and roles along the supply chain – including leadership roles in the plan, source, make, and deliver functions in the Aerospace, Life Sciences, Contract Manufacturing, and Biotechnology Industries.
